Pomegranate Salad
Pomegranate, butter lettuce, and ripe persimmon salad. Make a light lemon vinaigrette to dress this. Butter lettuce is delicious and inexpensive, break the head in half or thirds and toss in the vinaigrette. Slice ripe, peeled persimmon (look for the fuyu variety, but a ripe hachiya persimmon will be good too) and put that on the bottom of the plate, top with the butter lettuce, and spinkle pomegranate seeds all over.

Bucatini with Shrimp Sauce
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Saute peeled shrimp and remove from the pan. Put chopped shallots, garlic, and fresh tomatoes from the can in the pan. Add chopped rosemary and a dash of ground cumin. When the pasta is done, put it into the sauce along with the shrimp.

Flat Iron Steak, aka Chicken Steak
This cut comes from the shoulder and is tender, very flavorful, and inexpensive. Marinate it for a couple of hours with olive oil and a couple drops of balsamic vinegar. Cook it medium-rare and slice it very thin. Serve with sautéed broccoli rabe with garlic and oil.

Finish this meal with a plate of cheese and honey, like gorgonzola, and toasted raisin-walnut bread on the side.
